Iolite (Neeli Stone)

The sacred Iolite stone (Neeli) is an ocean of wealth, shielded safety, and longevity. It is also known as Neeli Ratna, Water Sapphire, Dichroite, Cordelite, or Kaka Neeli. Iolite comes from the Greek word ‘ios,’ meaning violet. The noble Saturn planet governs this gemstone. Hence, it is also called Shani Priya. This gemstone shows pleochroism, an optical phenomenon in which three distinct colors are visible at different viewing angles. The Iolite gemstone is an astrological substitute (Upratna) for the Blue sapphire (Neelam stone). It helps to achieve professional success, abundance, prosperity, vitality, protection, and business excellence.

What is Iolite Stone (Neeli Stone)?

As per GIA, the Iolite stone has a violetish-blue color with some invisible inclusions that vary its color to some extent. Remember to go through these varieties when you buy Neeli stones online or in-store:

1. Pure Iolite: It consists of magnesium, aluminum, and aluminum with traces of iron elements. It comes without any significant impurities.
2. Bloodshot Iolite: These Neeli stones are from Sri Lanka and have aventurescence due to hematite platelet-like inclusion that imparts a reddish color to this gemstone.
3. Blue Iolite: These Iolite (Neeli) stones are light blue to violet-blue in colour due to traces of iron.
4. Yellow-Brown Iolite: These stones have yellow-brown hues due to the presence of hematite or geothite. That shimmering golden hue resembles sunstone.
5. Rutile-included Iolite: These types of Iolites have rutile inclusions that look like needles, fine strands, etc., under the microscope.
