Catseye Stone (Lehsuniya Stone)

What is Cats Eye Stone (Lahsuniya Stone)?

Catseye stone is also known by many other names, like Vaiduryam stone, Sutramani, or Vaidurya stone. In India, this gemstone is more commonly called Lahsuniya ratna. It is seen as the primary gemstone for Ketu, which is a headless, shadow planet in Vedic astrology. This planet is often responsible for career setbacks, emotional imbalance, confusion, social isolation, conflicts in relationships, or even sudden financial losses. Catseye stone is worn to tone down these negative effects of Ketu.

It is especially recommended during Ketu Mahadasha, a 7-year-long phase known for intense inner and outer struggles. Lehsuniya stone is thought to help reduce obstacles and support spiritual and personal growth during that time. Not only is this stone astrologically powerful, but what truly sets it apart is its striking chatoyancy, even better than the glow seen in the Tiger eye stone. This unique effect makes it look stunning when worn as a Catseye bracelet, ring, or pendant.

Cats Eye Stone Benefits(Lehsuniya Stone)

Just like Shani (Saturn), Ketu is considered a karmic planet, and its Mahadasha is the time to pay the expenses for a lot of bad Karma done in the past. Wearing a Catseye stone during such turbulent phases is believed to offer resilience. It won’t fight your battles for you, but it will help you fight stronger.

Let’s now take a closer look at some of the most trusted Catseye stone benefits, and understand who can truly benefit from wearing it:

1. Protects from Sudden Unwanted Shifts: Ketu mahadasha is infamous for bringing sudden, unwanted changes like job losses, financial setbacks, broken relationships, and unexpected accidents. It can feel like everything is slipping out of your control. In such times, Lahsuniya stone is believed to act like a protective layer, shielding you from the harshness of Ketu and giving you a sense of calm in the middle of chaos.
2. Brings back Purpose in Life: Ketu, being a headless entity, is symbolic of the loss of control. People going through Ketu mahadasha often feel clueless and aimless about the pursuits of life. Lehsuniya stone helps clear that mental fog. It slowly brings back your sense of purpose and clarity in decision-making.
3. Guards your finances: While Rahu makes us crave material things, Ketu teaches detachment, often harshly. During Ketu Mahadasha, people often face unexpected expenses or loss of money. Wearing Catseye stone is believed to help you maintain financial stability. It may not make you rich overnight, but it can help you manage your resources better and avoid unnecessary losses.
4. Heals the body, calms the mind: Those under the influence of Ketu often complain of health issues like constant fatigue, headaches, sleep troubles like snoring, vertigo, allergies, or even anxiety. Wearing a Vaiduryam stone is believed to promote overall well-being, support better sleep, and reduce stress, helping you feel more at ease.
5. Prevents unhealthy social isolation: Ketu is a lone wolf. Its energy often makes people withdraw from the world. But too much solitude can slowly lead to unhealthy detachment, anxiety, and even depression. If you have been feeling distant from loved ones or unable to socialize, lahsuniya ratna is said to help you reconnect with others and bring emotional warmth back into your life.
6. Brings Spiritual Enlightenment: Ketu is a planet of detachment and inner transformation. It helps you rise above material wants and search for deeper meaning in life. For those who are already on a spiritual path or want to explore it, Catseye stone can be a powerful ally. It is believed to sharpen intuition, deepen meditation, and bring a quiet sense of peace that comes from within.

If you have been feeling lost, unfocused, or emotionally low, a Catseye gemstone could help you rediscover your path.

Who Should Wear Catseye Stone (Vaidurya Stone)?

Cat’s Eye is not just another shining stone. This gemstone isn’t for everyone, and that’s exactly why it works so powerfully for the right person. Let’s explore who is best suited to wear it and see if this gemstone is the right fit for you:

• People going through Ketu Mahadasha: If you are currently under Ketu Mahadasha, which lasts for seven years, Lahsuniya stone can feel like a lifeline. It helps soften the difficult impact of this phase and gives emotional clarity when everything feels uncertain.
• People born under Scorpio, Taurus, or Sagittarius: People with Scorpio (Vrishchik) or Taurus (Vrishabh) as their zodiac sign are often encouraged to consider Vaidurya stone. In Vedic astrology, Ketu is said to be naturally exalted in Scorpio and debilitated in Taurus. Wearing this gemstone can help align the powers of Ketu in the most beneficial way for people born under these zodiacs. Many modern astrologers recommend this ketu stone for Sagittarians also.
• Those with a poorly placed Ketu in their birth chart: If Ketu is not placed well in your horoscope, it can cause problems like social withdrawal, confusion, anxiety, or marital stress. A Cat’s Eye stone is often worn to reduce these effects. It helps you feel more balanced, emotionally steady, and connected to the world around you, which is essential for your social prestige.

Word of Caution: Lahsuniya stone is not something you pick up and wear casually. Since it carries strong energy, it is very important to speak with a trusted astrologer before wearing it. Also, Cat’s Eye stone should not be worn with certain other gemstones. For example, it does not get along with Sun-related stones like Ruby (Manik stone) due to the conflicting nature of these planetary energies.

Factors Affecting Catseye Stone Price & Quality

The price of a gemstone is determined by a blend of its natural features and origin. Understanding these factors can help you invest in the right gemstone and be an informed customer. Let us take a closer look at the key factors that impact the overall quality and pricing of a Lehsunia stone:

• Colour: The best-quality cats eye stones are said to be the ones having a rich golden green colour with strong grey undertones and a vivid, straight band of light across the surface. Simply put, the greater the chatoyancy effect, the costlier the cats eye stone is. A particular variety of cats eye stone, called kanak khet lehsunia, is particularly revered in India for its yellowish-green colour and strong astrological value. Stones that lack their signature glow are generally considered lower grade.
• Clarity: The clearer the cat’s eye stone, the higher its value. Top-quality lehsunia stones have very few visible inclusions in the form of minor stress cracks or brown spots here and there. While no real gemstone is 100% flawless; a cleaner appearance means the stone is rarer, more attractive, and spiritually more potent. Too many visible spots or internal cracks can take away from both the beauty and the price of the lehsuniya stone.
• Cut: Cats eye stones are usually cut into smooth, domed shapes known as cabochons, which bring out the stone’s chatoyancy effect. A well-cut and properly smoothed-out gemstone shines brighter, and hence, it looks more premium. On the other hand, if a stone is poorly cut or has a dented or rough surface, it might look dull even if it’s naturally high quality. This is why the craftsmanship behind the cut is just as important as the stone’s raw quality, and it definitely affects the price.
• Carat Weight: Larger stones naturally carry a higher price, but size alone doesn’t determine value. A smaller stone with brilliant chatoyancy, right colour, and clarity can be more effective and valuable than a bigger, flawed one. When comparing similar stones, the one with higher carat weight will have a higher price, provided all other quality factors remain equal.
• Origin: Sri Lankan Cats eye stone, is widely regarded as the superior variety of this gemstone. Lehsuniya stones of Sri Lankan (Ceylon) origin are renowned for their consistent colour, sparkling clarity, and powerful astrological effects. Lehsunia stones from India are a decent alternative, and while they tend to be slightly more affordable, Ceylon-origin stones are still considered superior for astrological purposes.
• Treatment: Untreated, natural cats eye stones are always more valued than artificially enhanced ones. While some stones are enhanced or treated to improve their appearance, such processes can reduce their spiritual potency. For those wearing lehsuniya for planetary or remedial reasons, it’s always better to go for untreated, lab-certified stones that retain their original energies.

Cats Eye Stone Price in India

An original cats eye stone price in India typically begins at around ₹350 per carat and can go as high as ₹50,000 per carat or even more. This variation in price depends on multiple factors, like the intensity of the luminous band (chatoyancy), clarity, and treatments. However, origin is the most significant factor that influences the cats eye stone price.

For instance, the price of an original Ceylon cats eye stone starts from around ₹2500 per carat, whereas you can get an Indian cats eye stone for as low as ₹370 per carat.

Care & Cleaning of Cat’s Eye Stone Jewellery:

Over time and with continuous usage, gemstones can accumulate dirt and lose their luster. Gently cleaning them from time to time helps bring back their natural shine and energy. Here are a few tips on how you can clean your cats eye gemstone and maintain its strong and vibrant aura:

• Warm up some water and add a few drops of any mild surfactant (like baby shampoo) to it. Soak your lehsunia stone jewellery in the mix for a couple of minutes and lightly scrub it with a microfiber cloth to remove any grime. Rinse under tap water and pat it dry.
• Avoid scrubbing too hard while cleaning your cats eye gemstone, as it can cause unwanted scratches, which can reduce its shine.
• Steer clear of exposing your cats eye gemstone to strong surfactants, harsh chemicals, perfumes, excessive heat, or ultrasonic cleaners.
• When not in use, keep your cat’s eye piece in a soft velvet pouch or a separate jewellery box to protect it from scratches or accidental knocks.
