Labradorite Stone

What is Labradorite Stone?

Labradorite is a stone from the feldspar mineral family, getting the name “Labradorite” from the Labrador Peninsula in Canada, where it was first found in the 1770s. It is known for its extraordinary visual appeal and the change it brings in the lives of people who wear or even keep it. Its beautiful play of colours is called labradorescence. This play of colours is so exceptional and intense that Labradorite is often termed as “Spectrolite” (Spectrum of colours). This stone is used in jewellery, but more importantly, its positive vibrations make it a friend of spiritual seekers and those who want to invite positivity into their lives.

Geologically, the Labradorite crystal forms in igneous and metamorphic rocks under very tough conditions. Typically, it comes in colours ranging from grey and blue, to green, yellow, brown and more. But that’s just its outer shell. The inside labradorescence of the Labrador stone has no limit to the range of colours it can emit. Some believe this stone to be linked with the planet Venus, and some believe it to be a sister stone of the Moonstone. Yet, Labradorite users have claimed to feel its powerfully positive vibrations push them towards a better life.

Factors Affecting Labradorite’s Price & Quality

The price of an authentic Labradorite crystal depends on certain factors that also determine its quality. These factors are:

• Colour and Labradorescence

Labradorite stones with deep and strong colour on the outside are considered more beautiful for jewellery and are also believed to be more auspicious in terms of blessings, so they are priced higher than dull or faint stones. The intensity and beauty of the stone’s labradorescence that occurs from inside the stone add up to its price, as it is rare to find rainbow-like or even northern-lights-like labradorescence.

• Cut and Shape

Well-cut stones that come in round, oval, pear, or cabochon enhance their labradorescence, hence making them more costly than uncut, raw pieces of Labradorite.

• Carat Weight

The larger and heavier the Labradorite, the more costly it will be because it is rare to find stones like these. Light pieces of Labradorite might also indicate that it is fake or made from glass.

• Clarity

Stones with fewer inclusions or internal flaws, and with clear flashes, are more desirable in both jewellery and spirituality. That is why clear but natural stones are rare to find and expensive compared to darker ones that are filled with inclusions.

• Origin

A high-quality Labradorite having orange to red flashes is mainly from the mines in Finland and Madagascar, making it cost more than its other sources.

• Certification

Certification is the key to confirming the authenticity of the stone. That’s why a certified Labradorite stone is often priced at a higher price than the ones without any certificate or verification.

• Treatments

Treated Labradorite that has been dyed or heated during the extraction process is believed to hold less value in jewellery as well as astrologically. That’s why untreated and natural stones are priced higher than the treated ones.

Original Labradorite Price in India

Labradorite stone price ranges from ₹300 to ₹500, depending on the factors given above. The reason for such an affordable Labradorite price in India is its more than sufficient supply. You will still need to be careful when deciding where you are buying this stone from. While the Labradorite stone price is low, it still has many fake copies in the gemstone market. They might match the beauty a little, but you will be compromising on the mystical Labradorite benefits.
